The Ice Wolves did a few things last night at the Mel.
The Wolves got the early lead they needed when Captain Graham Smerek tallied the only goal in the opening frame. The second period saw the Bombers push back as Dillion McCombie (a local Flin Flon resident) scored twice to give the Bombers the lead heading into the 3rd period. The third period saw a both teams have some excellent scoring opportunities, but both goalies played exceptional. With just over 4 minutes left in the third period, Assistant Captain Brett McNevin came in on a 2 on 1 and fired a shot that beat goalie Devon Buffalo glove side that sent the Mel Hegland Uniplex fans into a frenzy.
With less than 1 minute to go, the Ice Wolves had to kill off a penalty to send the game into OT when Carl-Phillipe Ouimet took an elbowing penality. The start of the OT had the Bombers with a 4 on 3 man advantage for over 1 1/2 minutes. After the penality kill the Ice Wolves had their own 4 on 3 man advantage in the extra frame and the best home power play in the league this year didn't dissapoint. The 565 fans at the Mel exploded when Assistant Captain Brett Hope stepped into a slap shot just inside the hash marks that Buffalo had no chance on.
