LA RONGE ICE WOLVES HOCKEY
The La Ronge Ice Wolves objective is not only to be successful on the ice but also to prepare players for growth in athletics, academics and to enhance their social skills.
The on-ice program is led by the coaching staff of Bob Beatty and Gavin Holcomb. Along with regular daily practices, the dressing room contains a weight room that allows easy access to supplement the on-ice conditioning in order to maintain a high level of fitness. The 2010-2011 edition of the La Ronge Ice Wolves will have many new faces. With at least nine players graduating there are a lot of positions open to compete for. We are looking for players that have the capacity to work at their best on a daily basis and that will wear the La Ronge Ice Wolves jersey with pride. We need only players that will present themselves as positive role models to the youth of our own and other communities and that have a desire to be part of a team that the entire community can take pride in.
The community has a wide range of facilities for players to continue academic growth. The two high schools offer options ranging from basic upgrading, GED equivalency to university entrance courses. There is also an Online High school program offered here in La Ronge with the support of staff that is able to assist and help set goals one class at a time.
Northlands College offers many other educational opportunities to players who have graduated and are looking for post-secondary classes. Northlands affiliation with the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina gives La Ronge the access to classes that only big centers usually have. A new program that is now offered also has online classes for the University of Saskatchewan as well as the University of Regina being offered with the assistance of proctors here at Northlands College to assist with tutorials and seminars.
Northlands College also offers classes to work on your GED equivalency and a variety of technical and trade related courses.
Traditionally Ice Wolves hockey players have worked with youth in the community. The opportunity to work with children in a school setting is beneficial to both players and students. Working at hockey schools, clinics and a variety of youth related activities provides an excellent opportunity for players to role model for our youth.
The community presents an excellent opportunity for part-time employment. Off-season employment is possible in a variety of areas including the mining sector, aviation, firefighting, recreation and a very busy trade industry.
Northern Saskatchewan is an incredibly scenic area and offers many recreational opportunities other that hockey. Some possibilities are fall golfing, hiking, hunting, fishing, and cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and snowmobiling.
Northern Lights Hockey Development and the La Ronge Ice Wolves recognize the importance of combining education and hockey to enhance scholarship opportunities. It is also important that our graduating hockey athletes have had the opportunity and to gain the skills necessary to succeed in life.
Thank you for considering our program as a stepping stone for success
