EDAM COMES OUT IN FULL FORCE TO WATCH HOME TOWN BOYS PLAY IN SJHL GAME
The La Ronge Ice Wolves played a “neutral site” game in Edam, Saskatchewan on Saturday Night. However it was anything but a neutral site crowd as the large majority of the people in the arena that night were cheering for the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
Edam, Saskatchewan is a small community North West of North Battleford and has a population of around 500 people. Yet this small community currently has 5 young men playing in the SJHL.
- Joel Blaquiere (La Ronge Ice Wolves)
- Jared Blaquiere (La Ronge Ice Wolves)
- Zach Nedelec (La Ronge Ice Wolves)
- Reed Delainey (Battlefords North Stars)
- Owen LeClare (Former La Ronge Ice Wolves and current Estevan Bruin)
The Wolves who were playing their 3rd game in 3 nights, saved their best for last and took the Battlefords North Stars to the woodshed and beat the nationally ranked Stars 7-1.
Trailing 1-0 early in the first, Coach/GM Shawn Martin called a time out to settle the nerves of the Ice Wolves and slowly took over the game and scored 5 unanswered goals in the second period. They added 2 more in the 3rd and cruised to a 7-1 victory.
The line of Painchaud, Barron and Jakobowski combined for 10 points. Nakeho Lamothe added 2 goals and Nick Prouty also tickled the twine for the Wolves.
As for the Home town boys, they may have only combined for 1 assist that evening (Jared Blaquiere), however playing major minutes, the Blaquiere/Porter/Blaquiere line shutdown one of the best lines in Junior hockey. Zach Nedelec, played his typical gritty game and also tossed a few knuckles late in the game for good measure.
From a $2800 50/50 to a home cooked meal for both teams, the community of Edam, in true small town fashion, came together to support the evening and made it a night to remember for everyone involved.
The La Ronge Ice Wolves Organization would like to thank the entire community for hosting this wonderful evening and for making all the Ice Wolves players feel like they were from Edam, Saskatchewan. Even if it was only for 1 night.
