Hovdebo Shuts out high flying Bombers

HOVDEBO STELLAR IN SHUTOUT WIN AGAINST FLIN FLON

The Ice Wolves picked up right where they left off prior to the Christmas break by beating the Flin Flon Bombers at the Mel Hegland uniplex on Friday Night.  Led by Myles Hovdebo’s 34 save performance, the Wolves shut out the Bombers 1-0.  The Ice Wolves played a gritty game and kept the high octaned Bombers off the score sheet.

The only goal of the game came late in the second period on a wierd play that saw the Bomber’s defenseman pass the puck in front of his own net.   It hit the skate of Ice Wolves forward Brendon Boyd and went into the net behind Buffalo.

This is the last game for the Wolves prior to the infamous trade deadline on January 10th.  With 6 – 20yr olds remaining on the team, it will be interesting to see if the Wolves are sellers or will they stand pat as they currently hold onto the the final playoff spot in the Bauer Conference 4 points up on the Melfort Mustangs – but the Mustangs have 3 games in hand.

Next game for the Wolves is next Friday night when the best team in the SJHL, the Yorkton Terriers come to the Mel.  Game time is 7:30pm.  Come on out to support your La Ronge Ice Wolves and pack the plex.
