Ice Wolves announce new assistant coach

The La Ronge Ice Wolves are pleased to announce the hiring of Kyle Schneider, who is the new assistant coach with the organization.

Schneider, a Prince Albert product, finished his junior hockey career with the Ice Wolves in 2020. Before playing for La Ronge, he suited up for the Melfort Mustangs (SJHL) and the Selkirk Steelers in the MJHL.

“I can’t thank Kevin Kaminski and the La Ronge Ice Wolves enough for giving me this opportunity to be the assistant coach of the team,” said Schneider.

“I always knew I wanted to try and coach someday, but I never thought I would have the chance to start my career off with such an established coach and a great SJHL organization. I’m excited to get things started this summer and I can’t wait to be back up in La Ronge in a loud, packed barn.”

In 80 regular season games in the SJHL and MJHL, he recorded 402 penalty minutes.

Schneider, who was a fan favourite in La Ronge, takes over for Gaelan Patterson. Patterson is now the head coach of the Port Alberni Bombers in the VIJHL and spent three seasons in La Ronge.

“Schneids brings everything, he has great leadership and passion for the game. He knows what it takes to win and has a fantastic attitude that will go a long away with the players,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminksi.

“He just has so many intangibles to contribute to the players, organization and community of La Ronge — and he bleeds teal. He loves it here and wants to win a championship that was cut short for us a few years ago. I am very excited to work with Schneids as he knows the game, but he told me he wants to be a sponge and learn every detail he can to get better each day. We welcome Kyle back to the Ice Wolves where he belongs.”

Meantime, the Ice Wolves will hold an identification camp in Saskatoon from Aug. 27-29. The cost to take part is $150 and the camp is open to 2001-06 born players. Contact Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski at (306) 420-8112 if you are interested in signing up for the camp.
