Ice Wolves blanked in North Battleford

The La Ronge Ice Wolves suffered their third straight loss on Friday night when they dropped a 6-0 decision in North Battleford to the North Stars.

The Ice Wolves outshot the North Stars 31-30, but they were unable to solve Justen Maric, who recorded his second shutout of the campaign. Topher Chirico made 24 saves in a losing cause at the other end of the ice.

Ben Portner, Jackson Allan, Bradley Blake, Xavier Lacoste, Brayden Sinclair and Riley Girod scored for the Battlefords Friday.

With the loss, La Ronge slipped to 2-6-1 on the season, which still has them sitting in 11th in the overall standings. The Ice Wolves will look to rebound Saturday night on home ice when they conclude a home-and-home series with the North Stars at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.

Prior to Friday’s matchup, the Ice Wolves acquired 2005-born defenceman Parker Carrier from the Humboldt Broncos in exchange for a player development fee and a second round pick in 2024 (2008 draft). Carrier, a Calgary product, had 10 points in 19 games during the 2022-23 campaign with the Calgary Royals U18 AAA team.
