Ice Wolves clip Hawks

The La Ronge Ice Wolves required a shootout to clip the Nipawin Hawks 4-3 Saturday in Kinistino.

Topher Chirico was brilliant in the La Ronge net, stopping all five Nipawin shooters in the skills competition and 33 shots in the game.

Will Forsberg had the shootout winner and a goal in regulation, while Parker Layton and Jacob Cossette also found the back of the net for La Ronge.

Meantime, Tyson Endall stopped 22 shots in a losing cause, while Dallyn Peekeekoot, Luke Chase and Finley Radloff scored for Nipawin.

With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 13-24-3 on the season, which has them sitting 11th in the SJHL standings. La Ronge is six points back of the Weyburn Red Wings for the last playoff spot.

The Ice Wolves will look for their second straight win next Friday night when they host the Nipawin Hawks at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
