The La Ronge Ice Wolves are now riding a two-game losing streak following a 5-4 loss Friday night at home to the Yorkton Terriers.

The Terriers built up a 3-0 lead before the game was eight minutes old. The Ice Wolves scored three times in the third frame, but a 5-1 deficit heading into the final stanza proved to be too much.

Dylan Handel, Parker Layton, Jaxson Martin and Jacob Hufty scored for La Ronge. Topher Chirico stopped 37 shots in a losing cause.

Jaron Desnoyers tallied twice for Yorkton, while Colton Koran, Anthony McIntosh and Jye Zawatsky also lit the lamp. Ethan Farrow was busy, turning away 41 shots for the victory.

With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 12-24-3 on the season, which has them sitting 11th in the SJHL standings. La Ronge is seven points back of the Kindersley Klippers for the last playoff spot.

The Ice Wolves will try to get back on track when they travel to Kinistino Saturday for a date with the Nipawin Hawks on Hockey Day in Saskatchewan.

Prior to Friday’s game, the Ice Wolves announced that Parker Layton has been named captain of the team.
