Flin Flon honoured Truth and Reconciliation by wearing orange jerseys and with a ceremonial puck drop in this game at the Whitney Forum October 2nd.
At 2:28 of the first the Bombers would set the pace of the first with a goal by Gabriel Shipper. The Ice Wolves pushed back with strong period as Jaxson Taupert stopped 13 of 14 shots after letting the first on past. Gavin Mattey would tie the game for La Ronge atthe 15:23 mark on the power play assisted by Brady Stange and Brandon Della Paolera.
The second would be all Bombers as they dominated the middle stanza for the second night in a row. Reese Richmond scored on the powerplay at 5:25 followed by Jeremi Tremblay 27 seconds later. Nathan Gagne added another at 15:23.
La Ronge came out in the third with a better work ethic and Taupert made some good saves to help them start to push Flin Flon back in the third. Nolan Doell would start the comeback at 11:40 with his 4th of the year assisted by Parker Layton to make it 4-2.
La Ronge kept pressing but at 15:05 Ryley Morgan was assessed a questionable tripping penalty with an unsportsmanlike on top to give the Bombers a 4 minutepowerplay with only 5 minutes left in the game. At 16:34 Zak Smith give them back that 3 goal lead.
But with time running out the Wolves would not say die and 18 seconds later Kole Christensson crashed the net and put in a greasy goal short-handed, assisted by Gavin Mattey and Parker Layton.
Head Coach Kaminski pulled the goalie with a minute remaining and at 19:33 Aaron Greyeyes would bring the Ice Wolves to within one. Unfortunately that is as close as they would get as Bombers’ Jeaden Mercier picked up an errant pass in the neutral zone and spoiledthe comeback with an empty netter.
Ice Wolves fall to 1-4-0 heading into the SJHL Showcase where they will play the Estevan Bruins on Tuesday at 4:30 and then Kindersley Klippers Wednesday night at 7:30. Catch the games on HockeyTv and on Ice Wolves radio at www.icewolves.ca
