The La Ronge Ice Wolves dumped the Red Wings 5-2 in Weyburn Friday night.
“That was just a complete 60 minutes, we worked hard,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “We were great on the forecheck, we got pucks behind their defencemen and made them turn all night.”
Lleyton Shearon and Dylan Handel each scored twice for La Ronge, while Mason Bueckert also tallied. Topher Chirico was sensational, making 34 saves for the win in net.
Max Monette and Jacob Visentini replied for the Red Wings. Dazza Mitchell got the start in the Weyburn net, but he was pulled after allowing four goals on 22 shots. Angelo Zol was perfect in his relief appearance, making 10 saves.
“I thought it was our most complete game since before Christmas,” said La Ronge forward Lleyton Shearon. “I think all four lines were going. The forecheck was the key thing, for sure.”
With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 12-22-3 on the season, which has them sitting 10th in the SJHL standings. La Ronge is just three points back of the Weyburn Red Wings for the final playoff spot.
The Ice Wolves will conclude a four-game road trip Saturday night in Estevan when they take on the Bruins for the second time this week.
