LA RONGE, SK – In front of 456 fans at the JRMCC, the La Ronge Ice Wolves closed out November with a gritty, hard-earned 2–1 victory over the Weyburn Red Wings—powered by a clutch night from rookie forward Evan Cook and a stellar performance from goaltender Graham Brown.
The Wolves wasted no time getting the building buzzing. At 5:41 of the first, Evan Cook buried his sixth of the year, taking a slick feed from Trevor Oishi and snapping it home for a 1–0 La Ronge lead.
La Ronge generated 13 shots in the middle frame but couldn’t solve Weyburn goalie Preston Patenaude for the insurance marker. Still, the Wolves carried their 1–0 lead into the third, setting the stage for a tense final period.
Early in the third, Weyburn finally broke through. On the power play at 0:45, Roan Burgess evened the game 1–1.
But the Ice Wolves answered instantly—just 14 seconds later.
Off a quick transition rush, Jacob Morrison buried his first of the season at 0:59, converting a setup from Ryder McKinnon and Evan Cook to put La Ronge right back on top, 2–1.
Weyburn poured on the pressure late, firing 13 shots in the third period alone. Brown stood tall turning aside 38 of 39 shots for one of his best performances of the season. Brown’s calm presence was especially critical during a parade of third-period penalties, including two more shorthanded situations for La Ronge. .
Despite being outshot 39–22, the Wolves battled, blocked shots, killed penalties, and made their chances count. Five different Ice Wolves recorded points and Cook continued to shine as one of the team’s top young forwards.
