The La Ronge Ice Wolves closed out their weekend with a 9-6 loss at home Saturday to the Flin Flon Bombers.

“You’re not going to win too many hockey games when you give up 18 goals over a weekend,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider.

The Ice Wolves had a 3-1 lead through the opening 20 minutes and a 4-2 advantage in the second frame, but they were unable to hang on at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.

Will Forsberg, Jacob Cossette, Nolan Baldwin, Seth Dragan, Raine Hodge and Adam Belzil scored for La Ronge Saturday. Karl Soneff got the start in net for the Ice Wolves, but he was replaced by Topher Chirico after allowing five goals on 45 shots.

Jacob Vockler led the Bombers with four goals. Anthony Piccininno scored twice for Flin Flon, while Liam Bridger, Justin Lies and Brock Mueller rounded out the offence for the Bombers. Harmon Laser-Hume allowed six goals on 25 shots for the win.

With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 1-3 on the campaign. La Ronge will look to rebound Tuesday night in Humboldt when they take on the Broncos for the first time this season.

“It’s a business trip – it starts with a real tough competitor Tuesday in Humboldt,” said Schneider.

Following Tuesday’s matchup, the Ice Wolves will head to Yorkton for a date with the Terriers Wednesday.
