The La Ronge Ice Wolves started a four-game road trip Tuesday with a 4-1 victory in Wilcox over the Notre Dame Hounds.
“The boys stuck with it,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “I thought all four of our forward lines were contributing tonight, all six of our defencemen and Topher was excellent again in net.”
Zane Normand, Jacob Cossette, Parker Layton and Jacob Hufty scored for the Ice Wolves. Topher Chirico was brilliant in the La Ronge net, turning away 31 shots for the victory.
Liam Hunks scored the only Notre Dame goal, while Spencer Borsos stopped 23 shots in a losing cause.
“I think we were controlling the puck really well,” said La Ronge forward Zane Normand. “Whenever we got in trouble, we got it deep, got the puck and just started cycling.”
With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 11-21-3 on the season, which still has them sitting 11th in the SJHL standings. The Ice Wolves are five points back of the Kindersley Klippers for the final playoff spot.
La Ronge will search for its second consecutive victory Wednesday night in Estevan against the Bruins.
