Ice Wolves dump Terriers

The La Ronge Ice Wolves ended a three-game slide Wednesday night in Yorkton when they tamed the Terriers 4-2.

“It felt good to get a win under our belt here,” said La Ronge defenceman Rylan Silzer. “We cleaned up our defensive zone. Lately, we have been giving up too many goals – I felt we dialled that in tonight and got the job done.”

La Ronge opened the scoring 8:40 into the first period when Mason Bueckert stuffed home his fifth of the season past Caleb Allen, who made 11 saves in the loss.

Parker Layton and Seth Dragan scored power play goals in the middle period as the Ice Wolves took a 3-0 edge into the final stanza.

Dylan Ruptash and Cade Kennedy scored in the final period for Yorkton, but it was not enough as the Ice Wolves hung on for the win. Rylan Silzer sealed the victory with five seconds remaining when he scored an empty netter.

Topher Chirico was sensational, making 40 saves for his second win of the campaign.

“I thought our goaltending was unbelievable,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “Topher stood on his head.”

With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 2-4 on the season. La Ronge is back in action Friday night in Melville when they take on the Millionaires for the first time this season.

La Ronge will close out its southern swing Saturday night in Yorkton.
