The La Ronge Ice Wolves couldn’t find their rhythm on Friday night, dropping a 6–1 decision to the first place Humboldt Broncos at Elgar Petersen Arena.
After a scoreless opening frame that saw the Wolves weather 15 shots from Humboldt, the game turned quickly in the second period. The Broncos erupted for five goals in a span of just over ten minutes, breaking the game wide open before the halfway mark.
Dayton Tailfeathers gave La Ronge their lone tally of the night early in the second period, finishing a nice setup from captain Zane Normand and Everett Merchant just 23 seconds into the frame.
The Broncos were led by Connor Miller, who picked up two goals and an assist, while Jacob Strizzi added a goal and two helpers. Humboldt also capitalized on the power play, scoring twice on four chances, while La Ronge went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
Ice Wolves goaltender Graham Brown faced a heavy workload, turning aside 40 of 46 shots in the loss. The Wolves managed 25 shots on Humboldt netminder Charlie Tritt, who earned the win with 24 saves.
The Ice Wolves will be on the road Tuesday in Nipawin before hosting the Melville Millionaires November 25th and 26th at the JRMCC.
