Ice Wolves fall in Flin Flon

The La Ronge Ice Wolves finished the 2022-23 regular season with a 3-2 loss in Flin Flon Saturday night.

“Obviously, jumping out to a 2-0 lead there was a great start in a tough rink to come play in,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “It was really tough to give up that one with 0.8 seconds left in the first.”

Jacob Visentini and Liam McInnis scored for La Ronge, while Dawson Smith stopped 33 shots in a losing cause.

Brent Gulenchyn led the Bombers with two goals, including the game-winner early in the third period. Meantime, Brock Mueller had the other marker for Flin Flon. Harmon Laser-Hume turned away 35 shots for the victory.

“We definitely showed a lot of heart tonight,” said La Ronge forward Walker Jerome. “We battled right to the very end, just couldn’t bury on a few chances, but I like the way we’re playing going into playoffs.”

With the loss, the Ice Wolves ended the season with a 32-19-5 record – good for fifth in the SJHL standings.

La Ronge will now get set for the opening round of the SJHL playoffs Friday night in Melfort versus the Mustangs.
