The La Ronge Ice Wolves dropped a wild 9-5 decision Friday night in Flin Flon to the Bombers.
“I thought we did a great job coming out in the second to battle back and tie it up at three,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “Then, we kind of just quit doing all of the things that helped us battle back.”
Mason Bueckert had a whale of a game, scoring four times for the Ice Wolves. Jamieson Franz had the other La Ronge marker, which was his first SJHL goal. Topher Chirico got the start in the La Ronge net, but he was replaced by Karl Soneff after surrendering six goals on 23 shots. Soneff allowed three goals on 33 shots in a relief appearance.
Jacob Vockler and Alexi Sylvestre led the Bombers with five points each. Vockler had a hat-trick, while the Bombers got goals from six other players en route to the win. Kenneth Marquart made 30 saves for the victory in the Flin Flon net.
With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 1-2 on the season. La Ronge will look to rebound Saturday night at home when they conclude a home-and-home series with the Bombers.
“We’re going to respond – no one likes getting nine goals scored on you,” said Schneider. “We’ll have a response – and we’ll be ready to go for tomorrow night back at home.”
Following Saturday’s game, the Ice Wolves will get set for a four-game southern swing that starts Tuesday in Humboldt against the Broncos.
