Ice Wolves pound Bruins

The La Ronge Ice Wolves recorded their second straight win Saturday night at home when they clobbered the Estevan Bruins 6-1.

“I thought that was a great effort by our guys tonight,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “I thought our execution and passing was phenomenal. We made a bunch of great plays, we banged.”

Ethan Strik scored twice in his return to the lineup, while Walker Jerome, Thomas Wright, Dylan Handel and Lleyton Shearon added goals as well. Topher Chirico made 37 saves for his second straight win in the La Ronge net.

Ilia Chmelevski scored the only Estevan goal, while Cam Hrdlicka turned away 35 shots in a losing cause.

With the victory, the Ice Wolves improved to 24-13-4 on the season, which has them controlling third in the SJHL standings.

“Right away, we took care of business – got pucks deep and hit them,” said La Ronge forward Thomas Wright.

Wright finished his evening with one goal and three assists as he paced the La Ronge offence Saturday.

La Ronge will look for its third consecutive win Sunday afternoon when they take on the Notre Dame Hounds at 5 p.m. at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. The Ice Wolves have picked up points in their last four games.

Following Sunday’s contest with the Notre Dame Hounds, the Ice Wolves will make the trek to North Battleford Tuesday for a date with the North Stars.
