Ice Wolves ready for playoffs

The La Ronge Ice Wolves open the 2023 SJHL playoffs Friday night in Melfort versus the Mustangs.

“Everyone has to step up their game, everyone has to sacrifice their body,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski. “It’s going to be a long road. You’re going to have to fight through adversity.”

The Ice Wolves enter the series as the fifth seed. La Ronge finished the regular season with a 32-19-5 record – good for 69 points. Meantime, the Mustangs ended up with 71 points and secured fourth with their 31-16-9 mark.

La Ronge won the season series 4-2 over the Mustangs. Two of those victories came at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort.

“It’s a lot harder (the playoffs) and a lot more of a grind me type of game,” said La Ronge forward Walker Jerome. “It’s definitely something we’re excited for and we’re looking forward to heading to the Palace on Friday.”
