Ice Wolves start trip with loss

The La Ronge Ice Wolves started a four-game swing with a 6-2 loss Tuesday in Humboldt.

“Obviously, the five-minute major to start the third is not the way we wanted to start the period – that definitely didn’t help tonight,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider.

Rylan Silzer and Raine Hodge scored for the Ice Wolves, while Topher Chirico made 47 saves in the loss.

Matthew Van Blaricom and Spencer Bell both scored twice for Humboldt, while Connor Miller and Travis Bryson rounded out the offence for the Broncos. Benjamin Motew was not tested much, making 14 saves for the win.

With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 1-4 on the season, which has them sitting in 11th in the SJHL standings. La Ronge will try to end a three-game losing streak Wednesday night on the road in Yorkton versus the Terriers.

“Giving up 53 shots again is not the answer,” said Schneider. “We have to continue to work on our defensive game and tightening things up.”

Meantime, the Ice Wolves make the trek to Melville Friday before closing out their southern trip Saturday night in Yorkton.
