Ice Wolves trade Morgan

The La Ronge Ice Wolves have swung a big trade with the Weyburn Red Wings.

The Ice Wolves have sent 2002-born forward Ryley Morgan and a sixth round pick in 2024 to the Weyburn Red Wings in exchange for a player development fee, third and fourth round picks in 2023 and the SJHL rights to defenceman Luke Bateman and forward Carter Briltz.

“It’s been a long time coming – Ryley Morgan asked for a trade,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski. “It’s funny how he’s a top-six forward and they want to give you a fourth liner or something.”

Morgan, a St. Albert product, had 24 points in 22 games this season with the Ice Wolves. He recorded 34 points in 42 games last season with La Ronge.

Meanwhile, Bateman currently plays for the Regina Pats in the WHL. Briltz is with the Victoria Royals.

The Ice Wolves will get back into the swing of things Friday night in Weyburn when they battle the Red Wings.
