Ice Wolves Vets to play for SFU this season

SMEREK AND ZEREBECKY COMMIT TO SIMON FRASER

Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey team is pleased to announce that former Ice Wolves Captain Graham Smerek has committed to join the team for the 13/14 season.

Smerek played three seasons with La Ronge in the Saskatchewan Junior ‘A’ Hockey League. In his final season with La Ronge, Smerek served as Captain and led the team in scoring with 39 points in 53 games. Smerek also joins his La Ronge teammate Pavlo Zerebecky as a freshman on the SFU squad.

“Graham is going to give SFU Hockey an injection of energy and leadership,” says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “He can play in all situations and will be looked upon to score goals as well. He was the Captain of his Junior team for a reason, and that is always a positive.”

The speedy forward says he can play a two way game with speed, and that he’s not afraid to play physical, which should make him a good fit in the SFU lineup. Graham also hopes to fit in academically as well, saying “SFU is one of the top Universities in Canada, and I am very proud to be going to school there. I am also very excited to be living in the beautiful province of British Columbia. I have not been out there too much and I have heard it is unbelievable.”

Graham and Pavlo join former Ice Wolves alumni Taylor Piller to suit up with SFU over the last few seasons.

Congrats to both Graham and Pavlo in continuing their academics and hockey careers.
