Ice Wolves win streak ends

The La Ronge Ice Wolves saw their three-game win streak come to an abrupt end Tuesday night in North Battleford when they dropped a 9-3 decision to the Battlefords North Stars.

The North Stars built up a 6-0 lead before the game was 15 minutes old. The Ice Wolves got on the board 17:28 into the first when Thomas Wright tallied his 10th of the season.

Wright added another goal for La Ronge in the third, while Walker Jerome had the other marker for the Ice Wolves Tuesday. All three of La Ronge’s goals came on the man advantage.

Alex Izyk and Brad Blake both scored twice for the North Stars, while Tanner Gold, Jake Southgate, Keiton Klein, Kian Bell and Colby Bear also found the back of the net.

Dawson Smith and Topher Chirico both saw time in the La Ronge net versus the Battlefords. Meanwhile, Josh Kotai made 33 saves for the victory.

With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 25-14-4 on the campaign, which still has them occupying second in the SJHL standings.

La Ronge will try to hit the reset button Friday night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex when they open a home-and-home series with the red-hot Nipawin Hawks.
