Ice Wolves win streak ends in Estevan

The La Ronge Ice Wolves saw their seven-game win streak end Wednesday night in Estevan when they dropped a 4-0 decision to the Bruins.

“Obviously, they had some success early – the puck was going in for them,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “I thought the effort from our guys was good. Obviously, we won the last seven in a row – we are playing the right way.”

Topher Chirico was strong in the La Ronge net, making 23 saves. The Ice Wolves had several decent scoring chances throughout the game, but they were unable to solve Cam Hrdlicka, who posted a 24-save shutout.

Kade Runke led the way for the Bruins with two goals, while Evan Forrest and Owen Barrow also tallied for the Bruins.

Meantime, the Ice Wolves will look to rebound Friday night in Weyburn versus the Red Wings. Assistant Coach Kyle Schneider says his group needs to be hungrier around the net.

“There were some rebounds there tonight,” said Schneider. “Second and third effort – we need to score those greasy goals. I’m sure our guys will enjoy the day off tomorrow, get some rest and be ready to rebound on Friday night.”

La Ronge will conclude its four-game swing Saturday night back in Estevan versus the Bruins.
