The La Ronge Ice Wolves are pleased to announce that 2001-born defenceman Josh Makarchuk has committed to the University of Michigan-Dearborn for the 2021-22 season.
“It’s been a long road, for sure, I’ve been in contact with the University of Michigan-Dearborn for a little while now,” said Makarchuk. “My time in La Ronge really prepared me and got me to that next extra step.”
The Calgary product appeared in two games during the abbreviated 2020-21 season with the Ice Wolves and he recorded one assist in the process.
Prior to joining the Ice Wolves, Makarchuk spent the 2019-20 campaign with the Nipawin Hawks in the SJHL and the Kimberley Dynamiters in the KIJHL.
“I had the time of my life out in the SJHL,” said Makarchuk. “The billets were fantastic – Wade and Lolita, and the Mohr family, I had a great time with them, they treated me really well.”
Makarchuk also says the coaching he received from Head Coach/GM Kevin Kaminski and Associate Coach Gaelan Patterson was outstanding.
Makarchuk will study behavioural and biological sciences at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, which has an ACHA Div. 1 men’s hockey team.
