SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Liam McInnis, La Ronge Ice Wolves

It was a busy week for the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Mel, but the team earned 7 out of a possible 8 points and have climbed into 2nd place in the SJHL standings. Defenceman Liam McInnis played a huge part in La Ronge’s success this past week as he not only played well defensively, but he chipped in offensively with a goal and four assists. The 19-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan is now above a point per game this season with 2 goals 13 assists in 14 games played.

SGEU MVP of the Week: Cage Newans, Humboldt Broncos

It was a perfect week for the Humboldt Broncos and leading the charge was 19-year-old Cage Newans. In the Broncos 3 wins this week, Newans netted a pair of goals and added 5 assists as the Broncos earned two wins over Battlefords and one against Kindersley. Newans week was highlight by a 3 point night Friday at home where he scored a goal and added two assists. The Parksville, BC product now has 14 goals and 27 assists on the season.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Jackson Fellner, Nipawin Hawks

The Nipawin Hawks also had a perfect week as they earned 6 points all on the road. Playing a big part in the Hawks success was goaltender Jackson Fellner. The Regina, Saskatchewan product kicked off the week with a 25 save performance in a 3-2 win in Wadena over the Yorkton Terriers and then earned a second 3-2 win Saturday in a shootout over Kindersley. Fellner is now 13-7-0-0 as a Hawk since being acquired from the Melfort Mustangs and has a 3.01 GAA and a .898 SV% this season.

Directwest Rookie of the Week: Matthew Van Blaricom, Humboldt Broncos

Humboldt Broncos rookie forward Matthew Van Blaricom also had an outstanding week for the Broncos as his team earned 6 points this week. The 16-year-old forward picked up a goal and an assist in the Broncos 6-2 win over Kindersley Wednesday and added an assist Saturday in Martensville as the Broncos edged the Stars 4-2. The pride of Southey, Saskatchewan is now up to 7 goals and 5 assists in just 16 games this season.
