Mustangs Take Two from Ice Wolves

Ice Wolves end the thanksgiving weekend with a 3-6-0-0 record after dropping two games to the league leading MelfortMustangs. The Friday game in Melfort didn’t go as planned as the Ice Wolves were stymied by the Mustangs 6 – 2. The Saturday game was much closer with the Mustangs coming out on top 2 – 0.

On Friday, the Mustangs would build up a 6 – 0 lead before the Wolves showed some life late in the third. Two Tri Communityproducts would connect at 18:35 as Cobe Delaney set up Jacob Cossette with his first of his young SJHL career. Also getting an assist on the play was Curren Wintonyk- Pilot. Brandon Della Paolera would wrap up scoring at 19:35 assisted by Gavin Mattey and Daxton Lang.

For the Saturday game, Coach Kevin Kaminski would put Xavier Cannon in net. Melfort Coach Trevor Blevins would counter with Steven Bacovsky.

The first period was quite even as the Ice Wolves had more pep to their step in this one.  The shots were 16 to 13 in favor of the Mustangs and they led 1 – 0 after 20 minutes.

The second was all Ice Wolves with the shots 12 to 6. Bacovskyshut the door however and the period ended with the same score.

The Mustangs would control the third period and Cannon stood on his head to keep La Ronge in it.  Carter Anderson would jump on a rebound that the Ice Wolves couldn’t clear and score his second of the season. The game would end 2-0 as the Mustangs extended their winning streak to 5 games.
