The La Ronge Ice Wolves remain undefeated at home this season, by beating the Estevan Bruins 5-1 last night.
After a scoreless first period where both goalies made some great saves, the Bruins opened the scoring in the second. The Wolves tied up the score before the middle frame was over. As history would have it, the Ice Wolves second period was not their best as the Bruins held most of the play and most of the scoring opportunities in the second, but ended up tied after two.
The Wolves came out in the third period and slowly took advantage after a short handed tally by Graham Smerek. The Wolves poured in on from there adding 3 more, including a fantastic highlight goal by Rhyse Dieno (check it out on our 2012/2013 highlights page).
The top line of the Wolves contributed 8 points on the night with Boyer and Dieno contributing 3 points each, while rookie Braden Oleksyn added 2 helpers. Jared Iron, who played a strong game also tallied for the Wolves.
Though the win is great, the important thing is how the Wolves responded after a 9-3 loss to the Flin Flon Bombers earlier in the week after a lack-luster performance. Next home game is against the Weyburn Redwings on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 3pm at the Mel.
