The La Ronge Ice Wolves are pleased to announce that forward Sage Roberts, from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, has signed a letter of intent with the team for the 2023-24 SJHL season.
“I like to think I play a two-way game, but I can also add offence at times,” said Roberts. “I’m extremely excited and proud to be joining the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The Ice Wolves were my favourite team growing up, so the opportunity to sign with them is unbelievable. Now, I’m gearing up to put in more work this summer.”
The 2005-born forward spent the 2022-23 campaign with the Indigenous Sports Academy U17 club. In 33 regular season games, he tallied 51 points.
“Sage had a great year at ISA and he keeps showing a lot of promise,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach/GM Kevin Kaminski. “He led the league in goals. He’s a hard worker, has a lot of passion and he has been committed to play for the Ice Wolves since he’s been two. He needs to keep his nose to the grindstone, have an excellent summer on the ice and in the gym to keep developing to reach the levels he can play. We’d like to welcome Sage to the Ice Wolves.”
Roberts recently suited up for Team Saskatchewan at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship in Winnipeg, MB. The local product scored once in his SJHL debut last October with the Ice Wolves as they routed the Melfort Mustangs 7-2 in front of a raucous crowd at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
Roberts is the eighth new player to commit to the Ice Wolves for the upcoming SJHL season.
