2024/2025 Ice Wolves Home Opener

The La Ronge Ice Wolves kicked off their season with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Melfort Mustangs at the Mel Hegland Uniplex on Friday night.

Assistant captain Jacob Cossette started the scoring at the   3 minute mark of the first period.  Mason Buekert and Cole Thomas got the assists.  An unfortunate 5 on 3 penalty kill resulted in a Melfort goal, tying the game at 1 a piece.

First year wolf Luke Reinhart, scored at 13:05, with assists from Seth Dragan and Sage Roberts.

     The second period was scoreless until the last minute when Mustangs Brayden Sunderland scored a short handed goal, sending the teams into their dressing rooms notched at 2 goals a piece.

No goals in the third period meant the two teams were headed to overtime.

The Wolves had their chances during the 3 on 3 overtime session, but at 2:10, Mustangs Nicholas Andrusiak slid one into the back of the net to give Melfort the OT win.

Wolves pick up a point in their season opener, and gave the fans a lot to be excited about looking ahead.  Newly acquired Goaltender, Logan Falk, looked solid in his debut, the returning players appeared to be bigger, stronger, faster, and there are sure to be some fan favourites among the newcomers.

Ice Wolves next action is Saturday night in Nipawin against the Hawks.

Ice Wolves next home game is Saturday , September 28 for the back half of a home and home showdown with northern rivals Flin Flon Bombers.
