The La Ronge Ice Wolves and their northern rivals from Nipawin embarked on a home and home weekend series in which the visiting teams took the W’s.
Nipawin rolled into the Mel Hegland for the Friday night contest determined to come out strong. The Hawks caught the Wolves off guard and built a quick 3-0 first period lead.
David Vitt finally got the Wolves on the board scoring his fifth goal of the season on a sweet set up from Dylan Nazareth. Newly acquired forward, Ryder Dembo, scored his first goal as an Ice Wolf to pull the Wolves within one.
Zane Normand and Jacob Cossette also tallied for the Wolves.Unfortunately, the Hawks had four more goals in store and when all was said and done, the final score was 7-4 for the Hawks.
Saturday night , the Wolves stormed into the Cage in Nipawin determined to set things right.
Dylan Nazareth scored his first goal of the season and assisted on an Owen Wilkinson goal to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead after the first. Nazareth found the scoresheet again in the third period assisting on Taite Donkin’s eighth goal of the season.
The Hawks were unable to give their fans anything to cheer about as Wolves’ goalie Graham Brown turned away all 20 of the Hawks shots on net.
The Wolves will be working hard this week as they prepare for their last two games of 2024 this weekend with a home and home series against the red hot Flin Flon Bombers. On Friday, December 20th, the Bombers will be coming to the Mel on a 10 game winning streak.
