Wolves Split Weekend Series Against Broncos

The La Ronge Ice Wolves were on full host duty this weekend as we held our annual Parents Weekend and hosted a two game series against the Humboldt Broncos. With the SJHL standings so close, and both teams sitting at 23 points in their respective divisions, there was a lot of movement to be made.
Friday night’s fans at the Mel were witness to a hard fought, tight checking game and a fantastic performance from Wolves goalkeeper Graham Brown. Wolves won Friday’s contest 2-1 with goals from Taite Donkin (7) and Mason Bueckert (10)
Brown stopped 51 of 52 shots and was named the game’s first star.
Lake Country Coop was the Friday game sponsor and provided free hot beverages as well as intermission shopping cart races.
Saturday was rare afternoon contest. Again, the game was close and hard checking and Wolves goaltender, Logan Falk, was putting on a clinic.
Unfortunately an early whistle resulted in a Wolves goal being called back and the momentum shifted to the Broncos favour. Goals from Broncos’ Maric Mamic and Connor Miller gave Humboldt a third period lead that the Wolves couldn’t overcome.
Wolves goal scorers were Bueckert (11) and Cole Thomas (8).
Many of the boys families were in attendance after travelling to the great white north from all over North America.
Saturday night was the Annual Sportsmans Dinner and Jersey Auction with guest speaker, former NHL star Matthew Barnaby. Guests heard some great stories about life in the big league from both Barnaby and Coach Kevin “ Killer” Kaminski, including two versions of the night the two enforcers squared off against each other. It was an overall terrific event.
We wish safe travels home for all families and we thank you all for coming up this weekend. Thank you for your support and especially thank you for entrusting your boys to our community and fans.
