The La Ronge Ice Wolves returned to the win column in a big way when they clobbered the Melville Millionaires 8-3 Saturday night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex in front of a raucous crowd.
“I think we got back tonight to playing Ice Wolves hockey,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “We were finishing checks, getting on the forecheck, getting on the cycle – not trying to do one-on-one individual stuff. There’s the difference, right? I thought 20 guys showed up here to play.”
The Ice Wolves used eight different goal scorers Saturday. Kaycee Coyle, Lleyton Shearon, Seth Dragan, Trenton Curtis, Walker Jerome, Jacob Visentini, Dallyn Peekeekoot and Mason Bueckert found the back of the net for La Ronge. Topher Chirico made 22 saves for his seventh victory of the season.
“I thought it was a great game, everyone brought their A game today,” said Ice Wolves forward Seth Dragan. “It was obviously nice to get a goal, but we’ve got to bring that same intensity for our next game.”
Jaxon Martens, Tucker Buhay and Cooper Chisholm replied for Melville. Clement Labillois and Ethan Rau both saw action in the Melville net.
It was a spirited affair Saturday with three fights in the final period.
With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 22-13-3 on the campaign, which currently has them sitting in fifth in the SJHL standings. La Ronge is just two points back of Flin Flon for second.
The Ice Wolves will be looking to keep the good times rolling Tuesday night at home when they welcome the Battlefords North Stars to the Mel Hegland Uniplex for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
