#22 Toby Shattler Fort McMurray, Ab
Most everyone associated with the SJHL knows who Toby Shattler is. His style of play could be described as “loud” and that’s exactly how the Ice Wolves want it. Acquired from the Grande Prairie Storm after his 17 yr old season Toby has been a major factor in the culture change within the team over the past couple of seasons. “After my first season coaching in La Ronge the biggest problem I seen with the group we had was that we did not compete hard enough and felt some nights we were easy to play against, I knew we had to address that” stated Head Coach/GM Shawn Martin. So early in that off season the first of many trades were completed and the player coming to La Ronge was Toby. “I was very familiar with Toby and I knew if we were going to turn this thing around he would need to be part of it”. Toby has scored 33 points in 107 games with the Ice Wolves to go along with 217 Penalty Minutes. “Those stats can be a little misleading as both years he had significant injuries he battled through where really he should not have been playing, but that’s just the type of guy he is”. Having a healthy and confident power forward like to Toby should help the Ice Wolves keep the ice in at the Mel for a long time in the spring of 2017.
Toby will be back on the Ice at the Mel September 1st when the Wolves open training camp
