Returning Players - Jared Blaquiere

#16 JARED BLAQUIERE Edam, SASK

At the Mac’s tournament in 2013 the Ice Wolves uncovered a hidden gem. Shawn Martin the Ice Wolves GM headed to the annual tournament with one thing in mind to find players that competed. Luckily he decided to stay and watch the Prince Albert Mintos play the South Side Athletic Club on that cold night. “He was 1 of only 2 Mintos not previously listed by an SJHL team” and in my mind he was the best player on the ice and at the very least every single guy on the opposing team knew who he was”. Stated Head Coach/GM Shawn Martin. At that point the Ice Wolves listed Jared to go along with two other Edam products that were associated with the Wolves, Owen Laclare and Zach Nedelec. Shortly after Jared had committed to the Wolves he brought along his brother Joel into the fold. “That was a pleasant surprise for me as I had tried to recruit Joel to Grande Prairie when I was there but he said he was leaving the game which he did”. With Joel and Jared in tow the next need was to find them a Centreman and a late summer acquisition from Lloydminster in Cole Porter fit the mold. “They were supposed to be my 3rd line that year but it didn’t take us long to figure out we had something special with those three”.  Jared’s first year started off strong with him scoring 10 points in 12 games. Unfortunately some injuries hampered him as the year went on and he finished with 16 points in 47 games. “We knew we had a player there and figured he could likely double his point production his 19 year old year”. What happened last season was surprising but not shocking as Jared compiled 50 points in 56 games and for good measure led the ice Wolves in playoff scoring by putting up 10 points in 7 games. While playing on the Wolves top line the last 2 seasons Jared has been making a name with the other strong element of his game his physicality. “Yes some of those checks are something to see, it’s amazing how an 180 pound player can hit with such force”. Jared's 3rd year with the Mintos closed out by them winning a championship, in his 3rd year with the Wolves, they are hoping that history can repeat itself and we are all sure Jared will have a big part of it.

Jared will be back on the Ice at the Mel September 1st when the Wolves open training camp
