Ice Wolves edge Terriers

The La Ronge Ice Wolves ended a two-game slide with a 6-4 win Saturday at home over the Yorkton Terriers.

“I thought it was a good solid 40 minutes and then we kind of went into a little bit of a shell,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach/GM Kevin Kaminski. “We bent quite a bit, but we didn’t break. We’ll take an ugly win here and get some rest  – and then get ready for Wednesday.”

Ty McKay had a magical night for the Ice Wolves. The Calgary, AB product scored his first SJHL goal in the first frame and then he netted a hat-trick in the third period to cap off a great evening.

“I think that me, Hodge and Handel were all just connecting,” said McKay. “We were making plays all over the ice. Honestly, we could have had a few more.”

Rylan Silzer, Jacob Hufty and Mason Bueckert had the other goals for La Ronge. Meantime, Dylan Handel led the Ice Wolves with four assists, while Raine Hodge added three assists of his own. Topher Chirico made 52 saves for his fifth win of the season.

With the victory, the Ice Wolves improved to 8-17-3 on the season, which has them sitting 10th in the SJHL standings.

La Ronge will look for its second straight win Wednesday night on home ice against the top-ranked Flin Flon Bombers.
