Ice Wolves fall to Broncos

The La Ronge Ice Wolves saw their two-game win streak come to an abrupt end following a 6-2 setback Thursday at home against the Humboldt Broncos.

“I thought the first 40 minutes were really competitive,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “They got a late one in the second. Besides that, I thought for the last 10 minutes of the second period, we were all over them.”

Mason Bueckert and Max Henderson scored for the Ice Wolves, while Topher Chirico made 48 saves in a losing cause.

Spencer Bell lit the lamp three times for the Broncos, while Travis Bryson, Tristan Serrao and Daylan Weigel also tallied. Aidan Fischer stopped 37 shots for the win in the Humboldt net.

“In the third, I thought we got into some penalty trouble as well,” said Schneider.

With the loss, La Ronge slipped to 7-16-3 on the season, which still has them holding down 11th in the SJHL standings. The Ice Wolves will look to rebound Friday night at home when they host the Broncos again.

Following Friday’s action, the Ice Wolves will conclude their weekend Saturday at the Mel Hegland Uniplex versus the Yorkton Terriers.
