Ice Wolves lose in Nipawin

The La Ronge Ice Wolves failed to win their second straight game following an 8-3 loss Saturday on the road in Nipawin.

Mason Bueckert, Lleyton Shearon and Max Henderson scored for La Ronge. Topher Chirico got the start in the La Ronge net, but he was replaced by Karl Soneff following Nipawin’s fifth goal. Chirico stopped 32 shots, while Soneff made 16 saves in a relief appearance.

Artem Hrabovetskyi and Finley Radloff both scored twice for the Hawks, while Vito Biondo, Braeden Jockims, Braxton Buckberger and Ronan Buckberger rounded out the attack. Tyson Endall was not busy, making 22 saves for the victory in the Nipawin crease.

With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 10-21-3 on the campaign, which still has them controlling 11th in the SJHL standings. La Ronge is five points back of the Melville Millionaires for the final playoff spot.

The Ice Wolves will try to rebound Tuesday night in Wilcox when they start a four-game swing against the Notre Dame Hounds.
