The La Ronge Ice Wolves dropped a 4-3 decision to the Estevan Bruins Saturday night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.

“I thought we did a lot of good things tonight, but I think we are giving up too much defensively,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “We have to tighten up and get back to stingy defence first.”

La Ronge had a 3-2 lead heading into the third period, but they were unable to hang on as the Bruins mounted the comeback for the weekend sweep.

Ethan Andrews notched his first SJHL goal, while Jacob Hufty and Rylan Silzer also tallied for the Ice Wolves. Topher Chirico was solid in the La Ronge net, making 47 saves.

“I thought our goaltender was exceptional,” said Schneider. “I thought Topher battled his butt off all night and gave us a real chance to win.”

Ilia Chmelevski, Carsyn Dyck, Tristan Dussault and Zachery Burns did the damage for Estevan. Cam Hrdlicka turned away 27 shots for the victory.

With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 5-11-2 on the season, which now has them sitting 10th in the SJHL standings.

La Ronge is back in action Nov. 10 when they make the trek to Melfort to battle the Mustangs for the third time this season.
