The La Ronge Ice Wolves dropped a 1-0 decision Wednesday at home to the Flin Flon Bombers.

Justin Lies scored the only goal of the game 14:24 into the first when he beat Topher Chirico shorthanded for his 23rd of the campaign.

“It’s tough to lose on a shorthanded goal,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “We’re going up against the best team in Canada right now. Flin Flon is obviously a powerhouse in our league. I thought our guys fought to the last minute. ”

Chirico was outstanding in the La Ronge net, turning away 52 shots in a losing cause.

“I thought Topher competed like no tomorrow,” said Schneider. “He wanted to win this one real bad, you could tell. He gave us a great opportunity to win. We were just one shot away from tying the game up.”

With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 8-18-3 on the campaign, which still has them controlling 10th in the SJHL standings. La Ronge is only five points back of Weyburn for the last playoff spot.

The Ice Wolves will look to rebound Saturday night at home when they host the Kindersley Klippers at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
