The La Ronge Ice Wolves earned a valuable point Tuesday in Wilcox following a 5-4 loss in overtime to the Notre Dame Hounds.
“We got off to a good start in the first period, I thought we played simple and smart hockey,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “Then we came out in the second – and we were just flat.”
Cole Thomas, Mason Bueckert, Dylan Handel and Parker Carrier scored for the Ice Wolves, while Topher Chirico stopped 34 shots in a losing cause.
Liam Hunks scored the winner with just two seconds left in overtime, while Van Eger, Carson Baylis, Davis Sato and Cole Wirun rounded out the attack. Spencer Borsos stopped 27 shots for the victory in the Notre Dame net.
“Notre Dame is a hungry team, they are not giving up yet either,” said Schneider. “We thought it was going to be easy.”
With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 15-26-5 on the campaign, which still has them ranked 11th in the SJHL standings. La Ronge is now four points back of the Weyburn Red Wings for the final playoff spot.
The Ice Wolves will try to rebound Wednesday night in Weyburn when they resume their four-game road trip against the Red Wings.
