Ice Wolves sweep Klippers

The La Ronge Ice Wolves completed the weekend sweep when they doubled up the Klippers 4-2 in Kindersley Saturday night.

“What a great weekend for our team,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “Tonight, we came out with a full 60-minute effort.”

The Klippers opened the scoring just 1:28 into the game when Ty Hilbig knifed home his 12th of the season past Topher Chirico, who made 27 saves in the win. La Ronge tied the game at one at the 3:14 mark of the first when Cole Thomas raced into the Kindersley zone and tucked the puck past Cody Jaman, who stopped 20 shots in a losing cause.

The Ice Wolves took their first lead of the night 1:09 into the second frame when Jacob Cossette sent a missile from the right boards past Jaman. La Ronge took a 3-1 edge at the 9:50 mark of the second when Cole Thomas tipped home his second of the evening..

“I think right off the hop our line had a great start and the team had a great start,” said La Ronge forward Cole Thomas. “I think we had some momentum and knew we could earn two more points tonight.”

Logan Linklater scored late in the third for Kindersley, but it was too little too late for the Klippers. Mason Bueckert put the final nail in the coffin with 1:13 left in the third when he scored an empty-netter.

With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 7-15-3 on the season, which has them sitting 11th in the SJHL standings. The Ice Wolves are just five points back of the Estevan Bruins for the final playoff spot.

La Ronge will look for its third straight win Nov. 30 on home ice when they take on the Humboldt Broncos at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
