Ice Wolves stun Klippers

The La Ronge Ice Wolves ended a seven-game losing streak when they came from behind to beat the Kindersley Klippers 6-5 Friday on the road.

The Ice Wolves trailed 4-1 midway through the second period, but they scored five unanswered en route to the victory at the West Central Events Centre.

“Obviously, it was not great to get down 4-1, but our boys were not going to be denied tonight,” said Ice Wolves Asst. Coach Kyle Schneider. “They bit down on their mouth guards and found a way to crawl back into the game in the second period. They came out in the third period flying and got it done.”

Dylan Handel, Parker Layton, Kale Taylor, Mason Bueckert, Jacob Cossette and Raine Hodge scored for the Ice Wolves, while Topher Chirico made 38 saves for the victory.

“The boys definitely came out a little slow,” said La Ronge forward Raine Hodge. “It was good to see everyone come back in the third and play a full 20 minutes.”

Keenan Ingram scored twice for the Klippers, while Logan Cox, Logan Linklater and Brock Evans also tallied. Logan Falk turned away 17 shots in a losing cause for the Klippers.

With the win, the Ice Wolves improved to 6-15-3 on the season, which still has them sitting last in the SJHL standings.

La Ronge will look for its second straight win Saturday night in the conclusion of the weekend series against Kinderlsey.
