Joyce commits to University of Windsor

The Ice Wolves are proud to announce that SJHL MVP Kris Joyce has received a scholarship to attend the University of Windsor of the CIS for the 2015-16 season and will be continuing his playing career for the Lancers.

Kris had a career year for the Wolves in 2015-16, leading the team into the playoffs and winning the first round versus the Yorkton Terriers.

With winning the SJHL Goalie of the week and month honours numerous times this past season, he was also named SJHL MVP and was a runner up for SJHL Top Goaltender.  On a national level he was also named a finalist for the CJHL MVP.  On a team level he picked up the Wolves MVP , Coach’s Award and the Most Popular Player Award.

The Prince George, BC product came to La Ronge as a 19 year old rookie and after solidifying the starting goalie role last January, he blossomed into one of the best goaltenders to wear an Ice Wolves jersey.  Big #33 explored many different options which included NCAA Div 1 and 3, Professional and CIS before choosing Windsor for the next stage of his development.

“Obviously Kris was a major part of our team over the past couple season, but what people don’t see is how hard this young man has worked to be where he is today”, stated Head Coach/GM Shawn Martin.  “It’s unfortunate that Kris has some academic issues because his goal was to attain a Div 1 scholarship when he came to the SJHL and he had many offers from good quality schools.  With that being said, to be able to join such a strong hockey program in Windsor, coached by Kevin Hamelin, he will continue to develop where I believe we will hear from him again.”

Kris will have the luxury of leaning on former Ice Wolves Star, Sebastien Beauregard, for leadership as he will be going into his 3rd season with the Lancers.

On behalf of Wolves fans and organization, we congratulate Kris and his family on this achievement, and although he will be solely missed, we wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavours.
